Tennis Games to Play During Your Stay

There are lots of ways to keep kids and adults active during a beach vacation. Many easy tennis-court games can be played right at Casa Del Mar and do not require a formal match or a complicated setup.

Below are simple options for families or groups who want something active between beach and pool time. Keep the pace safe, share the court, and adjust the rules for the ages in your group.

Line Tag

What you need: a tennis court and a few players.

Choose one person to be “it.” That person tries to tag the other players, but everyone has to run along the court lines. When a player is tagged, that player becomes “it.”

Dodgeball

What you need: friends and several soft balls.

Split into two teams, with each team starting on one side of the court. Each team begins with two balls. The goal is to hit players on the opposite team with a ball. If a player catches a thrown ball, the thrower is out and the catching team can bring one teammate back into the game. Continue until one team has no players left.

Soccer Tennis

What you need: cones or another safe divider, a tennis ball, and players.

Use cones to mark a middle line and sidelines. Players can use anything but their hands to move the ball across the court. The ball should bounce only once on each side. A team scores when the other team lets the ball bounce more than once, hits it out, or hits it into the net.

Tennis Baseball

What you need: a tennis ball, a racquet, and teammates.

Split into two teams. Choose a batting order and decide which parts of the court will serve as bases. Net posts, fences, and the center of the back curtain can work as simple markers. Play like regular baseball, but let the tennis ball bounce once before the batter hits it.

Hit and Run

What you need: a tennis ball, racquets, and a group of players.

Split into two equal teams and line up on opposite baselines. The first player starts a rally to the other line. After hitting the ball, that player runs to the back of the line on the opposite side of the court. Continue the rally. If a player misses, that player is out. The last player standing wins.

Tennis Hockey

What you need: cones, racquets, and tennis balls.

Set two cones on the baseline to serve as the goal. Place another cone closer to the goal as the shooting point and another farther back as the starting point. One player begins as goalie. Players roll the ball to the shooting point and use a racquet to shoot toward the goal. If a player scores, that player becomes goalie.

First to 100

What you need: a tennis ball, racquet, and a group.

Everyone spreads out. One person hits the ball into the air and calls out a point value. Whoever catches the ball earns that many points. If a player drops it, that player loses the same number of points. The first player to reach 100 points wins.
